Based in South Florida, John Lynn Fernandez works as a freelance film critic and author specializing in international and independent cinema, with published work covering major international film festivals as well as mainstream films.  His first reviews were published in 2015 and before that had written musings and thoughts on film posted on his blog.  Many of his reviews have been published for the International Cinephile Society (ICSFilm.org), one of the leading online publications dedicated to international cinema, where he has written feature-length reviews, essays, and festival coverage.  He has attended major festivals such as Toronto and New York as an accredited member of the press and he has covered world premieres and major releases from other festivals such as Cannes, Berlinale, Locarno, Fantastic Fest, and Visions du Réel.  His work emphasizes world cinema, long-form film criticism, director and auteur studies, emerging filmmakers, and political and social analysis in film.

John graduated from Stetson University with degrees in Spanish Language and Literature, Political Science, and International Studies in 2011.  He later graduated from Nova Southeastern Broad College of Law with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree in 2025 and is a member of the Florida Bar.  His educational background and life experiences have formed his critical interests in Latin America and Hispanic cinema, disability representation in film, and the influence of law, politics, and society on cinema.
