Douglas Markowitz is a writer, editor, and critic covering film, music, art, and other topics. He is the founding editor of Expo, a website covering global culture, and his work has appeared in The Art Newspaper, Resident Advisor, Hyperallergic, The Brooklyn Rail, Grammy.com, scrmbl, The Miami HeraldThe Sun Sentinel, and many other publications. Doug currently serves as film critic for the Miami New Times and previously worked as culture editor at the Phoenix New Times. Born and raised in South Florida, he graduated with honors from the University of North Florida (B.S. in Communication) in 2017 and attended Sophia University in Tokyo, Japan on foreign exchange in 2016. In 2023 he was named a finalist for the Esserman-Knight Journalism Awards. In 2024 he was nominated for a Sunshine State Award by the Florida Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.
