Lance’s writings on film have appeared in numerous publications including the Village Voice, L.A. Weekly and Creative Loafing, where he served as the paper’s film critic and wrote a weekly film column from 1991 to 2008. He has worked closely over the years with the local film community in the Tampa Bay area, appearing as a frequent guest on WMNF’s Art in Your Ear and serving as a programming consultant with the Tampa Theatre, the Salvador Dali Museum’s Dali and Beyond film series, the Tampa Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, the Jewish Film Festival of Tampa Bay, the Tampa Bay Arts and Education Network, and the Tampa Museum of Art’s Projections series. In the age of print media’s demise, Lance has become increasingly interested in creating and teaching film courses and has worked with Eckerd College and the University of South Florida, where he wrote and directed the six-part Masters of the Silent Screen television series which continues to be aired on local stations. He currently teaches film courses at the University of Tampa.
