Emeritus member George Meyer, for 22 years a film critic for the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, was one of the founders of the Florida Film Critics Circle. His previous reviewing of books and film appeared on public broadcasting and in various large and small outlets in the Tampa Bay area, including the Tampa Tribune. Meyer holds degrees in journalism from the Universities of Florida and Iowa; he taught at both universities and for nine years was an assistant professor in Mass Communications at the University of South Florida in Tampa. Prior to that, he wrote and edited for newspapers in Gainesville, Fort Lauderdale and Jacksonville and, in Miami, as a newsman for The Associated Press. He is semi-retired in Tampa, where he continues to nourish his interest in film and non-fiction writing.
